Insurance fees A. After their arrival in Taiwan, foreign students must join the Student Safety Insurance System. Refusal to do so will result in their being forced to withdraw from the college. The insurance fee is around $300NT to $400NT (New Taiwan Dollars) per semester. This scheme gives the subject a maximum of $1,000,000NT for accidental death or disability (using a scale divided into eleven levels), plus a maximum of $50,000NT for medical care due to accidental injury including outpatient and inpatient services.
B. Further to the above, the Taiwanese Ministry of Education requires that foreign students have to obtain Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) to cover them for the first four months of their stay in Taiwan. The fee for this is around $1,000NT per month. Again failure to do so will result in forced withdrawal from the college.
C. Finally, after the initial four months, foreign students should already have been issued with their Alien Resident Card (ARC) card, and thus become eligible to apply for membership of the Taiwanese National Health Insurance system (NHI). The insurance fee is $749NT per month. The NHI membership covers part of the outpatient service fees, part or all of the cost of some operations, inpatient services, or related treatments which are recognized by the Health Insurance Bureau. As with the above two policies, failure to join this system will result in the student's forced withdrawal from the college.
